The We Hear You. Te Escuchamos campaign is designed to reach a specific sector of the population: Latino Youth ages 12 – 22 to help them cope with all too common mental health situations and erase the stigma of seeking help. Depression, anxiety, bullying, and other social pressures have the same emotional impact on Latinos as they do on any other cultural group; in fact studies indicate the emotional impact is a lot higher. The ever-increasing dropout rate, suicide, and violence amongst Latino Youth demands programs to educate the Latino Community at large about the benefits of treating mental health issues. The importance of this issue inspired Dr. Hector Torres to develop this ground breaking campaign within The Chicago School's Center for Latino Mental Health an institution that focuses solely upon psychological issues within the Latino Community. In partnership with the Latino Mental Health Providers Network and an initial grant from the Chicago Community Trust; DLC Media Group was engaged to create, develop and launch the We Hear You. Te Escuchamos. Campaign. The campaign is ready to launch but we need your help.

Latino Family Caregiver Study to be Released Soon
FAMA Enterprises, LLC sponsored an 8-month study to identify gaps in services and determine the needs, challenges and concerns of Latino family caregivers. The report will be released soon.

Tomando Control de Su Salud
Recently, Maria Ugarte-Ramos, founder of the FAMA Bilingual Center for Family Caregivers, became a certified trainer in Tomando Control de Su Salud (Taking Charge of Your Health), a program created by the Stanford Patient Education Research Center and sponsored by AgeOptions to teach community members how to manage a chronic illness in a healthy way. Maria facilitates these sessions in the Spanish language in organizations throughout Suburban Cook County of Illinois. This year, FAMA volunteers participated in the American Heart Association exhibitor's booth at the annual Fiesta del Sol in the Pilsen neighborhood at the end of July. This effort helped Latina women build healthier lives, free of cardiovascular disease and stroke!
The American Heart Association’s “Go Red Por Tu Corazon" campaign targets Latin American women in the fight against heart disease, the no. 1 killer of Hispanic women in America.
On June 4, 2011 the FAMA Bilingual Center for Family Wellness attended its first community health fair reaching out to nearly 400 families at St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Mundelein, IL. The event called A Todo Corazón: Celebración de Familia, Salud y Vida was hosted by The Consulate General of Mexico in Chicago and the American Heart Association. This free community health experience included educational workshops on Latinas & cardiovascular disease, family wellness, health screenings, nutrition & physical activity demonstrations.
